Crank Hub Timing Seal...Will it seal??

OK I just installed my crank hub finally until it bottomed out using the all-thread method. You know how the hub has a smaller diameter area towards the crank and then it steps up a little thicker closer to the dampner... Well the part of my hub that goes through the timing cover is the smaller diameter part and it does not go in far enough for the thicker part to touch the seal. Im not sure if this is normal or not, it doesn't seem to me like there is a tight enough seal around the hub to prevent a leak but does anyone have any input? If I have confused you I will get pictures later but hopefully someone knows what im talking about.

Basically how do I know the seal is tight enough to the hub that it wont leak?

Hard to tell. While the hub was off was a good time to change the seal. If your hub is bottomed out on the crank sprocket, about all you can do is pray it seals up.

Well it is a new seal; I changed it when the cover was off. I was just making sure the thick part of the hub is not meant to run through the seal. I guess that would be a stupid question though since the hub is bottomed out but it is an aftermarket hub is why I am asking. I am using an ASP hub and balancer.

Thanks!
