Crank Hub STUCK

Doing the cam swap for the first time, everything was going silky smooth until I got to this hunk of junk. So I was battling this thing all night last night. I searched and found that people put either a grade 8 bolt or a 1/4 inch extension. I opted for the extension route. Well it was working and I got it about a quarter of an inch off then the extension broke. So I had to hammer the hub back on and that slipped out. So I tried it again hoping that since I got some movement out of the hub it would come off easier. Well the extension got smashed up before the hub even moved this time. So I dont know how to get this one out of there. Any ideas? Also I was talking to somebody out there and they reccomended a special gm/LT1 style puller. Has anyone tried that

Be carefull not to damage the threads on the crank, try heating the damper hub with a propane torch.

Did the extension mushroom out in the crank and that's why it's stuck? Is there any room so you can thread any kind of bolt into the crank?

Yea you gotta get a bolt in the crank hub to have the puller push against.

You are using terms like smashed up,shattered, and mushroomed out. Can you post a pic? That metal has to be removed and threads repaired if necessary. If we could see it we might be able to help. The only other solution is take it to a machine shop or replace the crank. That bolt has to be installed.

You need to get the extension out before you move any further. Does the extension rattle around in there or is it jammed in there pretty good? You might be able to heat it, the extension that is, and pull on it with something like pliers/channel locks and hope it gets soft enough to pull out.

Its jammed in there pretty good, no I cant move it around at all and it doesnt rattle. Give me a couple of minutes I should be able to get a pic up. Is there any way to get the hub off without pushing against the center of the bolt. O yea and it is pretty flush with the center of the bolt hole and I cant grab it with even a needle nose pliers

This is why extensions are never a good idea. I have read many posts of them getting jammed in the hub. An old head bolt with the threads ground off makes a decent "rod" to slip in the hole for the puller to push against.

If there was room to do it, a slide hammer might get it off.

Thanks shoebox, are you talking about the slide hammer to get the hub off or to get the extension out. Im not sure what a slide hammer is. At this point I dont care about the hub as its already messed up and I can get a new one. Im just trying not to damage the crank. Here are the pics I promised

Whoa those are huge, sorry I dont know how to resize

You can kind of see the extension in there, its the shiny part way down in the hole.
