Crank hub removal/installation

Do the hub removal/installation tools rented at Autozone work for our LT1 engines?

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=900826_0_0_

I've removed the crankshaft pulley in the past and still have the puller to do that, but am a bit nervous about pulling the crank hub to replace the leaking crank front seal. Then there's putting it back on too.

I've heard so many variations on here that I'm now confused as to the simplest way to do it, and which way works. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that will work. Just make sure the center shaft is pressing against the crankshaft and not the crank hub (LT1 hubs have a smaller inner diameter - lots of guys have broken pullers/ears off of the hub). When you have the right tool to do it it makes life so much easier.

Some people fasten their own install tool out of a 7/16x20 grade 8 threaded rod, but that one you listed will install it as well. Link: http://members.***.net/gmarengo/Misc/Misc.htm

Ok thanks for the quick reply. I hope to work on it tomorrow and will pick up the kit later if they have one. Though I'm sure that self made installer works fine, you are saying this kit will remove AND reinstall the hub without any additional bolts/washers?

Upon further review of the link, it says it's a wheel hub puller. You want a crank hub puller - there's a difference. Double-check with the store. Hopefully they have what you're looking for.

Thanks for clarifying. I have since called around and nobody has a 'crank hub' removal tool for rent.
