Wink Crank Hub Removal Help

Hi Everybody,

I am in the middle of doing a Cam swap I have everything out except for the Crank Hub. I have researched the board and cam across people using a 1/4" extension to put in the crank hole and using a puller. The Crank Hub looks like it is ready to pop out but I think the 1/4" extension I used wasn't big enough so it is sitting flushed in the crank hole. Should I put in another 1/4 extension? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks for your time and help.

I would try to use a steering wheel puller... That's the closest thing to the actual tool that's made for it. The alignment is kinda weird on the LT1 crank hub, but most of the time the steering wheel pullers will work.

Because some people have gotten a 1/4" extension stuck in the hole, I do not recommend using one. The proper tool uses a hardened rod to insert in the hole.

i use the bolt that holds on the balancer, just back it out a little at a time, put the puller on and turn it in until it bottoms out , stop turning once resistance is felt then remove puller and turn the bolt out a little more, about 1/4 inch, then reinstall puller and repeat until balancer is off. if too much pressure is required use another technique, it will ruin the threads in the crank.

I used the hardest bolt I could come across (I believe it was 3-4 inches) that was almost as big as the hole without threading into it. Then I placed the tip of the puller directly on the center of the bolt and got it out that way. Worked for me and no problems.

Edit: Make sure the puller it placed directly on the center on the head of the bolt.

Not sure if anyone else knew this so I thought I'd chime in.

The balancer puller that uses 3 bolts that you can rent from autozone never has bolts large enough for our stuff. I found that LT1 head bolts actually thread right into the hub and are long enough to use this type of puller. I left the crank bolt in without the washer just enough so that it'll let the hub slide off.

2nd vote for old head bolts! I went through two pullers and hours of frustration till I figured that one out! It's amazing what the right tool can do And I did remove the crank bolt and used a hardened bolt from home depot to put in the place of the crank bolt.

I used a hardened bolt that I ground the head off and took a drill and made a recess into the tip to center up the tool. The bolt is smaller than the crank bolt and bottoms out on the back of the crank. I have used it numerous times with no problems and it always gets the crank pulley off.
