I am curious how to get the crank hub off of an LT1. I have been trying for a few hours and it is just stuck. Thanks for any help, Josh

 

I used a 5lbs sledge. Just tapped around the edges to loosen it up. After that, i took two strong screwdrivers.(it helps if you have two people.) One on top and one on bottom. And just pryed it off. It makes it alot easier if you can pull it off evenly. Spray it with some WD40 to help loosen it up too. Oh, and if someone is under the car, be sure to tell them to watch out when it flys off...

 

You need to purchase a pulley puller. You can get those at most any auto parts store. While the hub is being pulled out you will have to remove the puller, insert a bolt into the center of the hub and reattach the puller again. The bolt is needed for leverage (for lack of a better word) and allows the puller to continue to pull.

 

You should be using a harmonic balancer puller, have the bolt out of the end of the crank, have the threads protected and not be pushing against the inside of the hub, itself.

I assume you have the pulley off already.

I would use one of the claw type pullers!! i tried with regular pullers and a broke two of them in few secs. Tried the claw type puller it was off in less then a min. If not i think kent moore makes a specail puller for lt1 hubs!

I was actually using a puller. I bent three bolts trying to det it off then screwed up the puller. I guess i'll just have to keep trying. Thanks for the input.

 

Ya the bolt type pullers arent strong enough, get a claw type puller much stronger, not to sound like an *** but you did remeber to take the bolt out first right? Sounds like a stupid question but ive seen ppl forget to take the bolt out.
