Which Crank for 396 build up?
Which Crank for 396 build up?
I am looking at the Cola forged crank (about $780) and the Callies Dragon Slayer (about $730). They are both 4340 forged cranks, my question is which to use? I plan on using a set of 6" Lunati pro billiet rods, and JE/SRP flat top pistons. I will more than likely keep it NA, but there is always the possiblity of a little spray. How difficult will it be to make 450-500 rwhp NA with a 396, using LT1 or LT4 ported heads? This will be a hydraulic setup, not solid roller.

55 minutes? Traffic? what too you so long
Thanks for the responses.
Is there an advantage with one crank or the other? Or is it personal preference?
I would go with a solid roller, but I don't want the added initial expense, and the added maintenance (setting valves). Or am I misinformed? Is there anymore up keep with a solid roller?

I'm running a Cola crank in my 383. It worked out great for me. Didn't require any alterations to balance it at all. It was perfect right out of the box. Very good quality piece.
I have no experience with the other.

personally i dont think you should go with solid roller for 450rwhp NA but thats just my opinion- that is if its street driven.
Talking to an expert (www.comotorsports, if not bret does a good job too
