Crane Rocker Spring Clearance

I went through a couple searches, and didn't find anything on these exact two. I am having clearance issue between the Crane LT1 spring kit (Thunder # 40-10308-1) , and the Crane Gold SA 1.5 narrow body rockers (Thunder # 40-10751-16). Just wandering if anyone had the same problem, and if the comps would fit better, or machine the Crane's to clear. The clearance problem is between the spring retainer and the center of the rocker.

(should of taken a better pic)

Thanks for any feedback.

Re: Crane Rocker Spring Clearance

Do your poly locks come real close to the top of the rocker arm also? Im having this problem w/ my crane self aligning rocker arms from my HOT cam kit. Some are so close to the top of the rocker that they are gouging the rocker arm a little. I have comp cams 987 springs on my set up now, but they clear the rocker body quite well. Its only the poly locks that are causing me grief.

Yes there is clearance issue there too. When they were both ordered for an LT1 i was thinking clearance would of been figured out by Crane. Just not sure weather to cut up new rockers or try a different set up. I will call Thunder tomorrow. I will also have a parts write up on the site when the clearance issues are worked out and engine is running.

Re: Crane Rocker Spring Clearance

Yeah, I was thinking of shimming the poly locks from the bottom up w/ some type of heavy grade washers. But, Im not really liking this idea. My buddy also has a set of Comp Cams Pro mags he isnt using. Im gonna try and borrow one of his rocker arms and see if there is a clearance issue with these rocker arms. Now about the springs. If I recall correctly, I had a similar issue when I was running the hot cam kit set up. The clearance between the rocker body and the spring was real real close, but did not touch. I dont know what my machinist did to get the 987 to clear. I know you have to machine the head for these springs and locators, so maybe this gave me the clearance I needed this time around.

Let me know what you find out.

I talked to Crane and they said that the two part numbers i listed shouldn't have clearance issues, but there is. So it must be something else in the valvetrain. Valves are stock length Manley and its a custom grind Comp Cam.

It LOOKS like you almost need longer pushrods.. I dont see why you would though if its a stock type setup.. did you change the heads? get a push rod length checker.. i dunno otherwise man..

Re: Crane Rocker Spring Clearance

They are stock heads, and we checked the pushrod length and at 7.200 its about where we want to be. So its looking like lash caps will be added. Heads and block were surfaced, so maybe it was in the machining which changed clearances.
