crane 227 cam w/ stock stall
crane 227 cam w/ stock stall
I know you need a different stall due to the higher power band with a new cam. Since the Crane 227 cam basically makes the same power as stock (6000rpms), would I really need a better stall? I also have heard a better stall will make a difference on the stock LT1 cam. I just dont wanna to a cam and appear to have no difference in power due to the stall. Here it is almost February, and I don't have a clue what to do for my winter project. lol

yes you will need a stall 2600-3200 would be sufficient its not really the peak power level you should be concerned with near as much as the duration @.050 that is where the stall conv.takes place.you will be making power later rather than sooner, say a stock cam is good with a stock stall speed of 1600-1800 but the cam you are putting in will start working @ roughly 1800-2000 so you would need to haveminimum stall speed of 2600 to take advantage of that cam.a stock cam performs very well with the same stall of 2600-3200....of course with supporting mods..

That cam will work fine with a stock stall, but do not expect to gain a whole lot of ET till you do the stall then you will gain more than normal from the stall alone. Been there done that. My current cam is just a shade smaller and in my heavier Caprice, gained almost nothing ET wise from the cam then .8+ from the stall later.
