Crane 222/230 cam
Crane 222/230 cam
Just curious, has anyone tried this cam in their car? I'm just wondering what kind of results it has, and compared to the CC305. It looks like a pretty decent cam. I'm not thinking about switching cause I wouldn't switch to a cam barely bigger than the one I have, I'm just curious about what kind of results this cam makes, and if anyone has dyno sheet for it.
The crane cam specs are
222/230 .509/.529 112 LSA
CC305
220/230 .510/.510 114 LSA

Those two cams are much to similiar to notice a difference between. If you want to go bigger, take a look at the Comp XE 230/236, or 224/230... Combination Motorsports also has alot of custom grinds worth checking out.

EDIT: As pointed out by WS Sick the question was in regard to the 846 not the 847 that I mention above.

GM sells an 845, 846 and 847 cam. all of which are made by Crane.
GM845 - 214/224 @ 0.050, .448/.509 lift
GM846 - 222/230 @ 0.050, .509/.528 lift
GM847 - 234/242 @ 0.050, .539/.558 lift
Personally (and this is just my opinion) I'm not a big fan of the XE grinds. I'd take the Crane 222/230, Hotcam or CC305 anyday over the XE224/230. It might be the fact that theres only 6 degrees more exhaust duration than intake, but most of the guys that've run 11s on stock heads or dynoed 400+ rwhp with poorted heads have used non-XE cams.

I've been feeling like Grease lately. The XE grinds are putting down the numbers on the dyno, but at the track they seem to be a tad behind the traditional ramps. This might have something do with the fact that XE grinds are peaking at 6K or so opposed to 6.5K+ with an 847/306 and ported heads. I think for a strictly track car, or mostly track with occasional street use on the weekends, I would stick with the non XE grinds. I feel for a strictly street car, the XE grinds are superior. Better vacuum, better driveability, more useable powerband. Just my thoughts.
I knew someone would still give me some advice on not to switch to that cam from my cam I already have, that I know already! That's why I posted that I'm not going to switch the CC305 for this one. AND, like they said already, the XE 224/230 isn't hardley (if any) bigger than the CC305. Anyway, but I do sort of wish I would have gone w/ this Crane cam in the 1st place. I think it's good for a few more ponies than the CC305. Oh well, not that big of deal. I guess the GM 846 is this cam? That's cool, it must be a pretty decent performer then. I know the GM 847 is an awesome cam.
