Crane 104227 Idle Video
Crane 104227 Idle Video
I finally got around to buying a Mini DV camera and made a video of the
Crane 104227 (210/224) idling from a cold start. The exhaust is a true
dual with an Ultraflow muffler. The video is available in the link in my sig.
The video is about 2.2M. Just right click and save target.

Sounds pretty dang sweet
I'm getting a ton of ideas for my cam swap now...although I want a little more lope.
EDIT: Just out of curiousity, is that dyno graph with this current cam? if so

possible with close to no lope. Cams as big as the 503 and GM 846 will pass
CA emmissions, but they are way noticable. I was hoping for more of a sleeper
approach.

Wow.. I think that thing lopes more than my car.. Is yours tuned?
Your definately running a smaller cam than I am (225/234, 112LSA)
You can check my video out at www.socalmuscle.com/vids/twiceaday.wmv
I honestly wonder if its your true duals that are the reason for so much loping

You have to laugh even with the great results you still get "why did you go so small"
. I think you should answer "why did you go so big" or "I did my RESEARCH and didn't go too big like so many have".
I currently have a similarly sized cam and it is great for a daily driver, car has been retired from such duty though and will be getting a more aggressive setup. I still think the "small" cam is great in a car actually driven a lot and heck it is actually enough that WOT is tough to find a place to use. The more aggressive setup I am going to go with is all about the track though will be drivable BUT probably not something I would want to drive 20K a year like I have the current combo.

takes is to punch it from a roll in 1st and it's spin city. It's also real nice at
1,500 to 1,800 rpm on the freeway in 6th. No need to down shift, just press
on the gas and go.

I've been looking very seriously at that cam, thinking maybe the Comp 218/224 would be more the way to go though. I had a similar cam w/ less lift in my thirdgen's 350 and it was a strong runner. I think alot of guys on this board in particular get a little carried away with a large cam in a stock heads daily driver...
Wonder how much your car would pickup with a set of headers though, guess they don't really make any dual cat shorties that are worth a crap though.

Since my A4 shifts at 5700, I figured what good is a cam that makes it peak power at 6400 -- I'll never use it.
This way, I have the power band all the way.

that I like the car the way it is and even 15 rwhp won't make that much of
a difference for what I do with the car. I don't race it so a tenth of a second
does not matter. Yes it will run better in the 5,000 to 6,200 range, but is it
really worth it?
Re: Crane 104227 Idle Video
Thanks for posting this video. I have been considering doing a cam swap and I've been trying to decide between the Crane 227 and the Lingenfelter 74211. This makes me lean toward the Crane, however I hope to find a video of the Lingenfelter cam idling, too.
I also have a set of SLP shorties that I plan to install first.
I have a couple questions for you:
1. Did you have any problems with retainer to guide clearance on the exhausts?
2. How do you get past the visual smog inspection with your driver's side cat moved?
Thanks!
