crackling noise coming from left side of the engine

i noticed this the other day when i was revving the car (at the throttle cable) its like a crackling noise and sounds like its coming form the left side of the engine. if you push down on the throttle linkage a lil then it wont make the noise but if you really rev it (like say to 3000 if i was in the car) then it will crackle. you can only hear the noise when right by the motor, never inside the car no matter what i rev it to. the car isnt driving any different since i noticed it, do you guys think it could be the placement of my cutout (in place of the cat)? anything serious?

If its a tapping noise is most likely an exhaust leak, i have an exhaust leak now with my mac headers and i feel like blowing up the car! If your hearing a tapping noise then i would check your cut out. They sell this exhaust gum stuff at auto stores to stop leaks but i use it to find leaks, it says wait 24 hrs till its dry, i build it up and wait about 10 to 15 min and start it and if it makes a bubble then its that. hope this helps.

I have the same noise, I tore apart the y pipe and disconected everything and put some ultra copper on all the exhaust flanges. I started the car and i thought the noise was gone and sure enough as soon as it gets up to oper. temp. it starts the ticking. Im about to go outside and check the spark plugs but the motor is still hott. It cant be an exhaust leak. if you respond before i go outside ill respond back but if im outside already ill respond back later and let you know if i got it to stop.

WELL MY PROBLEM IS FIXED. I went to tighten the plugs and i pulled the 8th cylinder wire off and it would come off the header, it was wedged between the header and the 6th cylinder plug wire, I yanked the wire out of its wedge and found that it was burnt to shreds, right through the red(MSD) coating, you could see the stiched stuff underneath. I called my friend and he had an extra set luckily, and they were the same MSD wires i had. i tore everything apart and replaced it, routed them different so that they dont touch the header at all by about an inch. starts great runs great and no noise. !!yay. maybe you guys should check them too. never know.

Good luck, I hope that fixes your problem, i hate to see F-Bodies with problems, Ricers should have problems not us. lol Do you have headers? If you do then youll be easy on the plugs, i tried them when i had factory exhaust manifolds and its a pain in the ***!!!
