Cracked Dashboard

Hey folks. I have a cracked dashboard on my 97 Z. It is the top part (closest to the windsheild). I know it is a flimsy piece of plastic but how the heck do you replace this and where can you pick up a factory dash ? Is the price outrageous (for the part and to replace) and has this happened to anyone else or is this a weird occurence. Thanks for any info ...

Im pretty sure youll have to pull both pillars, as they overlap the dash. Other than that its simple. I suggest investing in a panel popper (or panel tool). Can be had for $3-4 in the HELP! section at your local auto store. Then ya get under and work your way across. Its just clips holding it in. As far as cost and availablity, Im not sure. There should be a part number stamped on the back. Call your local parts department. I doubt theyre that much..

I've heard they're around ~85 bucks for a new one.

I just replaced mine last week. Got it from Jason Cromer for $90/$30 for shipping (oversized). I did have to pop the two pillar pieces off to remove/reinstall. Just peel the pillar back a bit to get a look at the clips so you can see how it's attached.

As for removing the old one, just get it out of there, it's already cracked, so no need to be concerned with busting it up a bit. The new one slides in and clicks right down very easily.

I didn't have to remove the pillars. If I remember correctly... After you have the dash loose, push down on the dash right by the piller and lift up in the middle of the dash and it should slide out. Clear as mud?

why dont you try going to an auto parts store and picking up the kit that fixes cracks in your dash board. i would try this and see how it comes out before spending money and time on a new dash. just my $.02
