A couple of quick questions
A couple of quick questions
My buddies camaro just through a bearing and he wants to sell it and i might pick it up....its a repainted Green Gray Metallic and its still in decent condition, the interior is pretty nice with your normal wear and tear...downsides are its a 93 A4 and i have a 96 M6 but my body is next to shot....how hard would it be to swap the motor out of my 96 into his 93 with one being OBD1 and the other being OBD2....also he wants almost 1500 bucks for it even though its mostly on the stock side with 160,xxx miles on it...is the swap that hard? should i just convert his car to OBD2? is the roller even worth anywhere near 1500?
Re: A couple of quick questions
I think most people on here will agree that just swapping everything over is going to be the way to go. That's just what I've read from reading other swapping posts. I have OBDI, and I definitely wish I had the OBDII, anyway. So yeah, I would recommend the full swap. Not sure if the roller is worth $1500, but around here, you can pick up a roller for $300 less than that in varying condition.
Re: A couple of quick questions
yeah i was thinking 1500 was a bit steep....im going to take a more in depth look at it tomorrow and see how all the body panels and stuff look....i was thinking maybe 800 because the body from what i remember was almost perfect and the interior was pretty nice...it does come with a set or ZR1 rims so i know that makes the price a little higher...any common problems i should look for....anything like common problem places for rust or any kind of defects that would help me lower him on the price would be great

$1500 is cheap for a roller....take a look at ebay and see what parts are going for......
Re: A couple of quick questions
well i assumed the wiring harness pcm trans motor and rear would have to be swapped...that and a few little bits of monkeying around with some connectors but i cant see it being all that hard....must be easier than a LS1 into a LT1 car...i doubt its worth 1500....i could get a really nice v6 for 1500 and quite a few running z28s go for 1500 around here

Re: A couple of quick questions
I agree. I could never find a Z28 for that cheap, and if they were, they were so messed up inside I didn't even bother looking at them. I got mine for $3800 with 158xxx miles on it and refinished heads due to blown head gasket. Long story short, I got a steal on it. I still don't think a roller is worth $1500, but that differs by where you live, too.
Re: A couple of quick questions
Aiight saw the car last night....its a non t top, rear is a bit worn out, trans is okay, motor blown, missing a few interior pieces, some small dings dents chips etc, doors sag but not majorly, when repainted he i dont believe they pulled the side molding so ugh, good things its got zr1 rims, new tires, the interior is pretty nice besides the missing head liner and dash cover, body seems pretty solid no real sign of rust...doesnt appear to have been in any accidents...i got him down to 900 without the rims 1100 with rims...im thinkin of offering 1000 with rims what do you guys think?
Re: A couple of quick questions
id just sell your car after cleaning it up and buying a nicer car with the extra money, save you a bunch of time and money in the long run. just my .02 crap I sold a pristeen 97 z28 a4 leather t tops black on black, headers/exhaust and it was running with 99k on her for 3k back in 06... boy do I miss her.. so there are good deals around, shoots I found my 96 ss for 6k with 54xxx on it Un molested.
Re: A couple of quick questions
Chevy Dude: Dang, wish they sold them that cheap here. Eh, 1100 with the rims is pretty reasonable. See if he would take 1000 with them, if not just go the full 1100. There's my $0.02.
Re: A couple of quick questions
yeah up in jersey if you have an exhaust and and rims people want like 5000 for a decent car....they make it seem like its a damn nascar....but i think the 1000 isnt a bad deal....maybe a week worth of work then between parting both cars i could pry make my money back
Re: A couple of quick questions
how bad is your body? you might be better off throwing the good bolt on panels and just repainting? Ive always found that building up from the problems you know there is less to arise while in progress.
Re: A couple of quick questions
I got an unmolested 95 Z with 168k on it for 1700. It was hit in the back and ended up needing a quarter. With the repairs half done, I sold it as a roller for 1200 after I got sick of doing bodywork and bought a nicer car to work with. I'd say a grand is reasonable if the body is good.
