A couple more header install ???
My headers should be here this friday. So i want to order the rest of my parts i'm gonna need. I should only need 1 o2 extention right? Which one do i need? Square or flat pin and what length would be fine. Also does anybody know what the part # is for the percy's gaskets for the header and the collector?
I don't know what headers you are installing, but I needed two o2 extensions.
The front o2 sensors use the flat connectors.
12" should be more than enough.
I don't have the part numbers for the Percy's gaskets, as I used Felpro 1406 header and Felpro 2001 collector gaskets.
But, I know I can get the Percy's collector gaskets at my local Autozone...
I just (yesterday) finished my LT header install. And it wasn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I got lucky and managed to work the passenger side header in WITHOUT lifting the motor or scratching the coating off.
Take your time and pay attention and you'll be fine.

well are they long tubes?
yes, then you will need extensions, you can call most race shops around your area. i have LT's you will need them.
no, if they are shorties you shouldnt cause i didnt.
It should come with a good gasket and the bolts.
you can get most of that stuff at one place im sure. Plugs, wires, sleeves, bolts.

you need the flat pin for the drivers side o2
the rear o2 use the square connector, so if you are getting sims or deleting them, you wouldn't need the square extension
i'm pretty sure that the passenger side fit, without an extension
just some tips,
i put a notch in the k-member for one bolt on the drivers side, as it was a pain to get to
i have everything but the headers off for the winter work, and i'm going to dent the y-pipe on the passenger side, bolt closest to the outside of the car, to make it easier to get a socket onto (this is for the random technology y-pipe dual cat, not sure if others have the same problem)
definitely get plug wire sleeves for wires 5, 7, 6, & 8
depending on what plug wires you have, #8 might be too short, i had msd's and burned it.
i used thermal wrap tape around the starter wires as protection, been there since early summer with no problems.
i had to flatten the heat shield on the drivers side so it wouldn't rub the header and damage the coating. also had to play with the steering linkage too (loosen the bolt closest to the firewall to move forward, and back)
i had a friend help with the install as extra hands proved to helpful, especially with the pass side. he passed the header down into place and i bent the dipstick while leaving it in the pan
on the drivers side you might want to remove the coolant temp sensor (i think) between plugs 1 and 3, i broke mine putting the header in
while there you should put new plugs in, its gonna be the easiest then, when everything is out
lastly, take your time, and reap the benifits of them later, i think there a great header

to get my LT's i had to take the middle bolt out of the motor and jack the motor up so the motor tilted for both sides.
i took the steering linkage out, but if you can get around it, that will make it alot easier.

I'll let you know how it goes when i do the install. I'm sure i will run into some problems. Everything seems to take me double the time it takes normal people. I'm gonna try to do it in 2 days. Saturday and sunday. If i don't finish i'm gonna have to take off monday and finish it then since it is my only means of transportation.

The hardest part of my LT install was getting the stock y-pipe out. Once that was out the rest of it was pretty easy.
As a matter of fact, I spent one night getting the bolts on the stock y-pipe ready (PB Blaster), then the next night I broke them loose (mine were 15mm) and dropped the y-pipe down, the next night I had to cut it off my intermediate pipe and get it out of the car. Then it went fast!
Starter, oil filter, AIR pump, dip stick, stock manifolds, etc... all came out really quick.
Then we (I had 1 helper all day and another for a couple hours) spend the next day (9 hours really) getting the heat taping done, the headers in, the plugs in, the wires routed and such. All that we lacked on that day was the starter, drain/fill with oil, belt, air intake tubing, alternator and belt to start it up.
All in all, it was a 4 day install for me. Wednesday night was PB Blaster night, Thursday 6 hours, Friday a few minutes working on the AIR tube out, Saturday 9 hours, and Sunday 7 hours...
Do yourself a favor and buy a replacement coolant temperature sensor for the driver's side head just in case. If you don't break it, return it. But have it on hand. I spend half the day Saturday tracking one down. I probably could have had it all finished Saturday if not for that.
