I suppose my choice would be to go with the z28, but the only ones I've found within an hour's driving distance from miami have 100k miles on the engine.

I talked to my mechanic today to see if he would go with me to check the engine out and he advised me against a z28.. against a domestic in general, especially with 100k miles. He told me I was to be expecting a lot of headaches.

A couple of problems here and there are to be expected. I don't mind putting down the money to fix it either, but is it gonna be to the point where I could be days without my car for some sort of failure?

I would love to wait around and shop for the right z28 with under 70k miles, but like I said I wrecked my car and can't afford to keep missing work.

I decided to broaden my range a little bit and I come up with this...
I found a 94 transam http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...or=&cardist=75 I talked him down to 4,900. The car has 70k miles, and for what it's worth it's been adult driven (that could be good or bad).

A transam is the same engine wise right? I suppose the interior might be a little different, but I'm under the impression that they're pretty much the same car.

 

what are you looking for?...if you are looking for a car that isnt too slow, and has good styling, both fit that description, so go with the one with less miles/cheaper ...if you want a performance car, go with the z28, hands down, head and shoulders above the gt

 

and also, the condition you buy the car in, and how you drive it will determine its reliability, but there is a reason they say, "when you buy a camaro, you get champagne for the price of beer."

 

LT1's can be reliable drivers, but I think I'd rather have a 94-95 mustang for a fun daily driver over an LT1. They look decent and have the super easy to work on 5.0L engine.

 

You are limiting your options by not considering vehicles offered outside your stomping grounds.

Check around. On the web or even ask some guys on this site to keep their eyes open for a specific vehicle.

I have done this myself when asked. Sometimes it just takes looking in the newspaper or car trader for "just the right car".

If the vehicle sounds great, someone may even take a personal look at it for free or a few bucks.

And if you narrow it down to "everything sounds great" (and it's not located in the "rust belt, and never was) hop on bus, train, plane, etc and make the trip.

If you minimize your risks up front, the trip may be well worth your efforts. Remember that the prices of some vehicles may be less dependings on the area you are buying from.

Traveling a couple hundred miles for a great deal is better than buying something locally that may still fall apart before you drive the 2 blocks to your pad. JMHO

wow i dont believe what just happened.

I was gonna get my brother to let me borrow the money to go check out the transam tomorrow, but I go to call the guy back and it says the area code changed. I call the number with the new area code and it's some lady that has no idea what I'm talking about. I check my phone and the call wasn't saved for some reason. I called every single number saved on my phone and none of them was the right one. This is bs

Buying highmileage High performance cars is like picking up a hooker. You never know how used and abuse she is.

 

they are both older cars, they will both have miles on them, why would u want a rustang anyway?

 

LoL, Mine has been "adult driven" also (I'm 34) and in my case, thats probably BAD (I beat the hell out of it, call it arrested development)

 

I have a 97 z28 and i have to say, it is very comfortable. I hurt my back in an accident and it will hurt if i sit in any other car for too long, but not in my z28! Smooth ride, easy steering, good visibility (though some would disagree), smooth shifting, easy clutch (and i have a heavier duty clutch).
as far as insurance goes, my insurance is 800$ CHEAPER a year than my 95 mitsubishi galant was and i dont have the cleanest driving record...ive had my lisence for three years and have been pulled over 10 or so times.
The camaro is no fun to work on but it makes up for it when i drive it...i almost always have a smile on my face in my camaro.
Expect to change the clutch in a high mileage camaro...they suck.

 

my roomy had 94 5.0 (last year for 5.0s w/e it is) and he had shorties, true duals, 275 tires, intake, and we got stomped by a saturn that was just trying to pass us... it was very embarrsing (even though we had 4ppl in the car lol)

it did sound nice, but that was the only good thing about it....

i'd never get a mustang

get a mustang if you are low on cash for gas/insurance, and dont need so much power

get a fbody if you want a true sports car

 

Mustangs are awsome cars..I've learned to respect them and thier capabilites. Although I've destroyed all the 4.6L's I've come up against. The worst Mustangs to race are the 5.0's Fox bodies...why because 9/10 those guys have removed thier stock engines and dumped in some off the wall carb sh*t that hauls ***. You never know whaty our comming up too with one of those. On our cars we don't do things like that. The 5.0 guys they do it all the time. Not to mention you can pick up Superchargers for them like dirst cheap on ebay. The newer 5.0's like the 95-97's I remember are awfully weak. Yo uwant make crap off them without cracking into the Engine. F-bodies on the other hand respond well without going to the extremes.
