Cost to replace an opti?

I think my opti got flooded yesterday from all the rains.

Now the good news, I have a $200 deductible on my comprehensive that covers flood damage.

Now the other bad news, I dont want to put in a claim for a small amount.

If the cheapest new opti is from jason at 320, what would a normal shop charge to replace it?

If i put in a claim it is towed to the dealer and they can deal with the insurance company.

So, how much would labor be to change and opti?

TIA

I've read lots of different numbers around here, i think you should call up a dealer and ask. I've heard anything from $600 to $1200 before.

EDIT: I had the same problem not 2 months ago - had to drive through like 8 inches of water on the street like 1/4 mile from my house. Ultimately i just took the opti off, took it apart and soaked up the water and put it back on and i was in business.

I hear you with just cleaning it, but it is the original from 93 with 39k miles on it. How much more life does it have? this is an opportunity to legally have it replaced for $200.

If labor is $75 then it isnt worth putting in a claim to save $200.

THAT'S WHAT JASON QUOTED YOU?!?!?!? Man have those Non-Vented suckers gone up!

Pick it up yourself and put it in yourself. Don't claim it as you'll pay for it in rates. It's a very easy job, all you have to remove is the water pump, intake ducting, and crank pulley. Piece of cake.

Labor will be way more than that. Probably by about 4X or more. If you can stand to make a claim, it would be cheaper to pay $200 and you won't have to do any work.

Non-vented optis have not gone up that much. About a year ago, they were ~$300.

So, you are saying you got a brand new GM opti and labor and extras were free? You got a great deal. Couldn't have been a dealer.

Either that's just labor, or it isn't a GM opti..[or both ]

Re: Cost to replace an opti?

i have an appointment with a dealer on monday, have my gold AAA card ready to call for the free tow sunday. I called the insurance co. they are sending a person to look at the car while it sits dead in the driveway. Im an old fart, so Im not too worried about getting zinged with the rates.

The Pontiac dealer quoted me about 3 hours after "researching" it, and the Chevy dealer off the top of his head said 5 hours.

The part quote was $650 from the Pontiac dealer!!!
