Cost of Boring an Engine

Hey everybody this is my first posting in the forum. I have a 95 Z28 LT1 and am looking to bulid it up a bit. I was wondering if anybody could tell me how much it would cost to bore out .30 over and what it would involve. If you have any ideas on adding more power aside form turbo, super charger, I would appreciate it too. Maybe what the best cam is for street use and power. Thanks

Prices vary - we charge $240 to bore/hone with torque plates.

Just search through the threads here, there's months of reading on those subjects.

well if you dont want to go FI i would do heads and cam.

There isnt a best cam for street use and power. the cc224/230 aka cc503 is a very popular street cam. It makes great power with stock heads.

What do you already have done to the car? Budget? Goals?

Shop rates vary a LOT, especially in different parts of the country. Some additional work is involved in a stroker motor involving clearancing for the rods at the bottom of the cylinders. Just the added displacement of going from a 350 to a 383 is not going to add much performance. Unless it needs a rebuild anyway, spend your time and $$$ on things which enhance airflow (heads, cam, valvetrain, and exhaust). That's where the power is.

The Camaro is my second car, sometimes a daily driver but not always. Im just trying to get a little more power out of it no budget really but its high mileage (157xxx) so is it a little late to add on without a rebuild?

If youre looking to bore out a block 30over to build a 355, might not be the first mod. Bolt ons as an exhaust, cold air intake, underdrive pulley, etc are cheaper and necessary for many other mods. If you change the cam, you usually need to change the springs and retainers. Its also a good idea if youre there to change the pushrods, rockers, and lifters too.

The most important question is how much power do you want and what is its use?

Basically I want to build a car that is street drivable, but at the same time is not a daily driver. I want about 350 or 360 horsepower before aspiration, if I choose to do that later on. Thanks for all y'all's posts

That's the price for the whole job, all 8 cylinders. We are ~ $105/hour shop rate and it's 2.4 hours to bore the cylinders, torque the mains, install torque plates, hone the cylinders to size for the pistons, and clean the block.

Like Rich said - shop rates vary, I'm in an expensive area of the country.

I actually have a matched pair of those reverse two tone P226ST's - really nice too shoot. I love Sig's so I also have a 220 Elite, 226 DAK, Sig Pro 2022, and I would have more but it's been a tight year.

start off with:
CAI
headers/exhaust
gears
PCM tune
1.6rr's
SFC's
Drag radials

with the mods above it should be right around 300rw. than later on if you want to build the motor you will already have the boltons done.
