correct way to dyno a4??

been discussing this with a friend who says leave it in drive 3rd and just let the computer shift it normally then go to wot halfway in third till your shift point is reached or your maximum rpm is reached.i figured u would start with the car in 2nd and go wot till u reach shift point or maximum rpm.does this make sense or whats the correct way?and also can u get different numbers from doing it either way?

Re: correct way to dyno a4??

get to the point in 3rd where it will no longer downshift into 2nd...theres probably a way for the comp. to hold the gear so you get a longer pull, but im not sure on that

Re: correct way to dyno a4??

Yea i think you can get into that with tuner cat or lt1 edit where you can set the downshift speeds so it won't shift back to 2nd when you get on the gas in 3rd, i think there was a post on this a while back, you might be able to dig it up in a search.

Re: correct way to dyno a4??

If I remember correctly, I read a post the other day and they looked it up and it was something like 62 mph and above in 3rd and it won't downshift. This might be wrong, feel free to correct me if it is

Search for lockup or lockup switch.

i have the acctual d on my car so it wont shift up or down unless i move the shifter to 2nd or od.so then would it be fair to say dyno in d and not in 2.

Re: correct way to dyno a4??

Well i think 3rd gear is 1:1 so you want to be in that. If you are going too slow in "d" it will downshift to 2nd when you go wot.

As said below your post, it can still downshift.

Re: correct way to dyno a4??

If you are dyno tuning the car at the same time, your tuner can make it shift into third really early and then it won't downshift prematurely, but if you are just dynoing it, then yes, you usually drive it to about 3500-3600 in 3rd and then hammer it.
