correct GAP for plugs?
How do I know what the correct GAP is for my spark plugs?
I just took them all out after finding out one of my plugs was all fouled up...and regapped them all to .50 If this is incorrect..and say..its supposed to be more like .35.....could this cause a big stutter or power loss like Im having? I am getting fed up and would like to eliminate this problem if its not the cause, and simply reset them if it is... Im seriously getting fed up with my Z and as much as I am a die-hard chevy fan..Ill look into a friggin Legacy GT or something
Anyways, I have aftermarket parts..valve springs, lifters, Roller Rockers (1.6), Pistons, Rods, Cam, etc...does this make a difference? If so, how do I know what to set my plugs at?? Should I try resetting them all to like .35 and see if it does anything? If the .50 isnt my problem, and thats where they should be, will putting them to .35 cause it to act up since it would be too small of a gap? What are the symptoms if anyone knows..of having a plug gap too high or too low? Thanks guys,
Derek

Re: correct GAP for plugs?
To help you out first, what type or brand of plug are you using? If you using oem plat. plug they will be set at .050. If your using non-plat plug there set around .035-.040.
Re: correct GAP for plugs?
Well the plugs are fairly new, the guy that built my engine put them in. However, he didnt spend much of the money I paid for my rebuild on plugs obviously..he put in the Autolite 106's. So thats what is in them now..are these platinum? Probobly not huh?
My radiator shroud says stock plugs set to .050 of an inch. Thats what they are set at now. Most of the ones I had to re-gap (infact all 8 needed atleast 'some' adjustment) were set much smaller, closer to .040 or less?? My question is this..would the gap being off, too much for instance...to actually make the car 'stumble' around 2500RPMs?

Re: correct GAP for plugs?
Autolite 106 are not platinum just a standard plug with the correct heat range for the car. But if some are gap at one reading then others are at another then yes the car can break up at upper rpm's.
You say that the engine was rebuilt how about the plug wire are they fine? If one is bad it will do the same problem as well.
