Copper exhaust gaskets

I am about to order some from jegs since my felpros 1406's developed a few leaks over the year or so they have been on there and had a simple question.... I am trying to order a set from MR. Gasket but Im not sure if its 27.99 for a single gasket or for a set of 2... it keeps refering to it singularly so i wanted to make sure since in most pictures it shows a set of 2 gaskets...

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

Are you sure it's the gaskets that are causing the leaks? I.e, do both headers leak? Are you sure that the flanges on the headers are straight? Are you certain that the bolts are tight? Just asking since I understand many have used the 1406s a have had no problems.

If it is not the gaskets themselves, then you are not going to fix the problem by switching to copper gaskets. JMHO

Sounds like you just may not be using lock washers. I've used the percy gaskets with alot of success.

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

I'd look into other remedies first... I COULD be the only one, but I had MAJOR leakage with my copper header gaskets.

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

Do not buy copper gaskets. They are designed to mate to stock manifolds. They will LEAK THIER *** OFF! What a waste of money if you have headers. They do work decent as gasket scrapers after you remove them

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

I wouldn't use copper gaskets if they were free. You need some type of flex to absorb heat/cooling cycles. Copper is not exactly resilient. Blowproof maybe, leakproof.... no. I recommend against copper & so far every person that used them against my recommendation came back & told me they wish they had listened.

I use the FelPro coated gaskets with great success as well as the stock Camaro gaskets (you have to drill the end holes to match the headers) with a little Permatex Ultracopper applied.

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

you guys ought to try the percy gaskets I mentioned. They are a multilayered aluminum that works exceptionally well. The percy collector gaskets suck but the header gaskets are really nice.

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

I actaully used copper gaskets and I haven't had any problems. I used the one's that came with my mac's and put some RTV around them. And so far they haven't leaked.

Re: Copper exhaust gaskets

Yeah I mean the header bolts are tight and I have locks and they have not been taken off they just recently started leaking I mean its not bad leaks but I just noticed the drivers side ticking under load, doesnt at idle audibly. If I rev it up just a tad I can hear both of em ticking. I also had a cat or maybe 2 blow up again in the exhaust so I think that its plugged up my exhaust system and might be what caused the leak, excess back pressure, because my car runs like crap most noticably under heavy load and at higher rpms.
