Cooling Question
Cooling Question
This afternoon I went to start my car up before work to let it warm up and defrost the windows, mind you it snowed last night. So I start to drive and I noticed that my temp. gauge was climbing, I was puzzled why because I haven't had a problem with it since summer, another problem was that I was getting no heat at all it was just blowing cold air. So I pull off into a gas station so I could pop the hood and see if maybe there was a leak. Everything looked fine, although there was a tiny leak from a clamp so I just tightened the clamp and that leak stopped. I was still puzzled because like I said, there were no other leaks, and I had no idea why I wasn't getting heat since the engine was running so hot. As I was at the gas station a guy came up and asked what the problem was and he said it was probably the thermostat. I didn't think it was because it has never given me a problem before and it has been cold lately. So I got it back home as quickly as possible and the temp. was still high but the car was running perfect no hesitation or anything.
When I got home from work (sister drove me while the car sat) my car was gone
Turns out my brother took it to the bank since his Z was covered in snow and couldn't get it out of the driveway. I asked him if the car was running like ****, no heat, etc. He had no problems with it, I started the car and sure enough there was plenty of heat and the temp was stable. The only thing I noticed was there was a low coolant light, not a big problem probably just from that little leak.
So I my question is, what caused that overheating and no heat problem? Was that guy right when he said it was the thermostat?
