I just replaced the heater core on my car a few days ago. Yesterday I started getting the caramel oder again inside the car coming from the vents. The smell had gone away as soon as I replaced the core. I replaced the core as soon as I smelled the odor, so there was no liquid inside the vehicle.

What would cause the core to go out so fast??

Give it another week for the coolant to evaporate/dry up, you could be smelling old coolant
