Cooling Problems cool in summer...over heat in winter??? lol
ok give it to yall short...
during the summer car ran fine...now the winter it over heats??? lol
it has brand new thermostat and no air pockets...problem occured when radiator cracked then i got new tank on it and reinstalled
car sits at idle and heats till the fans come on at 225...drops to 215 the repeats
driving car runs fine 185...stop at a light it immediately starts gettin hott again...
turn on the heater even on low...NOT DEFROSTER heater and the car will stay at 185 like reguler
turn on defroster the car will sit at 180 all the time...
wats my problem...not a blown head gasket...not air pockets...not fans...pretty sure antifreeze/water mix is good...thanks
Daniel

Re: Cooling Problems cool in summer...over heat in winter??? lol
its brand new, but is it the right one? second, just cuz the ECM says the fans come on at 225, doesnt mean they are coming on at all... check that out...
Re: Cooling Problems cool in summer...over heat in winter??? lol
Sounds normal to me.
The car won't cool until the fans come on or until the car is moving. That is why it climbs at a stop and drops when you drive. When you put the defog on, it forces the fans on which cools the car. I can only assume that when the heater is on low, it has enough air moving through the heater core to act as a 2nd radiator.
If you want it cooler than that, do a fan mod or reprogram your pcm.

Daniel6718, The EXACT same thing is going on with my car and I thought something was wrong as well. It's done it within the last month since it's been getting colder here (in Oklahoma). I'm gonna change the thermo on mine because I wanted to put in a 160 instead anyway. I have a manual fan switch that I can use to override the PCM and turn the fans on whenever I want to...even with the fans on it still rises, hopefully a new thermostat will fix it. Weird deal though...seems strange.
