cooling problems
cooling problems
OK i've been scratching my head and i think I might have a solution but need some help seeing if I'm right. Heres the deal....i was having cooling problems and tried everything I knew to do from water pump, t-stat, fans, flushing the system, bleeding the system and still the same thing. So went and had the heads pressured check and they were fine. So while I had everything off re-did the engine with upper seal kit. Got it all ready and cranked it today still overheating. I took the t-stat out and ran it to see and it will stay where it is suppose to about second click then it will get around the middle mark which is fine after about 10 or 20 min it get over the middle mark and slowly rises to just below 260 mark and stays there. It ever gets above that. Everything works fans, pump and all. So my thing is should I replace my radiator? I feel like it maybe clogged and the water is not cooling. I am stumped when i take of the cap there are no bubbles coming from the radiator and I bleed the system and its fine so I know it can't be the block. So any thoughts would be great. Thanks
Re: cooling problems
ya i have washed the fins out and the condenser. Still no differance, but i just got done taking it out and there were paint chip looking peices coming out from the drain plug. So I'm just geting a new one.
Re: cooling problems
You can take them to a radiator shop and they can brush them for you. It might be worth it to ask them. I haven't looked much yet, but the cheapest new radiator costs about 200 from Checker Auto. The radiator shop might only charge 20-30 (just guessing) to have your radiator cleaned. If anything, they will more than likely give some advice. Also like Shoebox said, look for debris if you haven't already.

Rad may be plugged on the inside. The shop can clean it out with a soaking.Take it and let them clean it vs a new one it's a lot cheaper.
