cooling problems
Ok I have been having some cooling problems, so the first thing I tried was flushing the radiator and replacing the t-stat. I installed a new 180 stant t-stat from Advance auto parts and 1 gallon of dex-cool and then topped it off with water, I let it run a few minutes and then bleed the line until no air was coming out and then ran it for awhile and bleed it again. The car is running where it should while driving, about 180 but as soon as I stop at a red light or in traffic is goes all the way past the last white line and sometimes the check gauges light even comes on, then as soon as I pull away from the light it will drop all the way back to 180. It seems like it is vapor locking everytime it idles. What would cause this and how can I fix it?
that's strange. even if your fans aren't on, it shouldn't go that high that quick. maybe your radiator is clogged and you're only utilizing part of it. even flushing it isn't enough sometimes...they opened mine up and saw it was all clogged with rust at 80,000 miles, i got a new one and it works great.
Yeah I would have the radiator checked for clogs. Or you can feel around on it and see if there are any temp differences on different spots. If one spot is cooler than others then you probably found the clog. Also is a good idea to run your fans on a switch together. I did mine and it never runs over 180, ever. Don't disonnect the stock switch though just in case.
I think I may have found the problem, there is a pin hole in the heater hose that has the bleed valve on it. The hole is about an inch above the clamp and so I hope I can get lucky and cut the hose there and reinstall it.
Would this cause the kind of problems I am having? It was only about a 1/2 gallon low on coolant/water.
