cooling issues...
cooling issues...
Well...when i put my car away last summer around Oct or so everything was running great. Well when i started it up in Nov. it started to over heat on me. It always runs at 180 degrees(right in between the first two lines) Well it went over the half way point so i shut her off. Well i started it today and it did the same thing. The electric water pump has less than 2k miles on it so i don't think it's that. The fans didn't come on so i figured i'd start there. But idk where to begin or what/where to look. I checked all the fuses and they're fine. I don't know how to check if the relay's went bad.
Anyway's i got the itch really bad and want to get the beast running great again!
Please help!!

Read this thoroughly (courtesy of Shoebox):

The fans don't kick on till 226* so don't worry about the car going a little past the halfway mark. As long as it only gets to ~230* and kicks back down, you're fine. However if it shot up in a matter of seconds, then I would be concerned.
Check the coolant level, check for leaks, check to see that the fans come on, check the thermostat. All that and more is detailed in the link. Good luck.

Well I checked the thermostat, and that still looks brand new being that the motor has less than 6k miles on it. (Then again idk what a bad thermostat looks like lol) And I think the computer is programmed to turn the fans on at a cooler temp but I can't remember what.
I just don't understand why it would happen during storage.
Thanks!

I would jump the electric w.p to insure that its coming on. Does the temp shoot up there or is it a gradual thing. The way to check you thermostat is to take it out and put it in boiling water and see if it opens up.
It's a gradual thing...took it a few mins to get past the normal temp. When i go to jump the water pump will it be obvious that it's turning? I've never done it before...But why would the water pump go out just from sitting? Either way i'll check it out this weekend to see what happens.
I dont know why it would quit working from sitting but did you remember to check the inline fuse coming off the water pump, mine came with one. Yes when I jump mine i can hear it running. Its not very loud but yes you should be able to hear it as long as the car isnt on.
