Cooling Fans NOT Coming On

Ok guys, my Z's been running hot while at idle and sitting in traffic. When I turn on the defroster to divert the heat, the temperature drops and my fans kick on. The temperature does drop while I'm in motion when the heater is not on, so I'm assuming the fans are not kicking on. I replaced the thermostat today but still it runs high in the same above situations even after bleeding and topping off coolant.

I checked the fuses and all are ok. I took the 3 cooling relays and tested them in the fog lights and everytime I put one in the fog lights worked.

So what's my next move? ECT at the water pump (anyone got pics of this?) or the sensor for the gauges?

Thanks in advance!

Hey man. By-pass the relays by jumping terminals 87 to 30. double check those numbers i havent done it in a while. but the fans should turn on when you do this. if it doest your not getting power to the relay. Check the upper radiator hose when the engine is hot and see if the hose is hot. If its not you got a bad thermostat (I know its new but it happens). If that doesnt find the problem id look at the pump itself. hope this helps ya.

This is your biggest problem. Make sure they are comming on. The engine will get pretty hot before they kick on. Turn the AC on. This will force the fans to come on Low (They will turn off when you are driving over 40 MPH for about 2 min). Then check to see if the fans are indeed on. If they are not, then reply back and let us know something.

You are not saying what temps you are seeing. A lot of people think it is overheating when it is in fact normal. You can read about the cooling system here.

Well, my temperature goes beyond the last hash mark, right inbetween that and the red zone. I checked if the fans kicked on and they don't. It's been doing this ever since I've owned it and that just doesn't seem normal. The fans DO come on when the HVAC is ever turned on.
