Coolent smell only when hot

Just like it says, I smell coolent only when I'm siting in trafic and the temp gauge reads around 3/4 (on the stock gauge). I can turn on my fans and the smell goes away. I can't find any leaks. I flushed the coolent about a year ago and put in the orange type of coolent. Any ideas? Thanks.

Here's a guess.
Check the coolant crossover tuve bolts on the back of the heads.
They have a gasket on each siide of the tube on each head for a total of 4 gaskets.
Just jack it up and take a look at the back of the heads.
If you see some marks down the heads underneath these, It may be them
This seems to be a problem I have seen quite a few times.
Check it out, The gaskets are about 5 bucks a peice at a local dealership

If it's getting to the 3/4 mark it could be boiling over. While you're at home let it idle and get to the point you can smell it, pop the hood and look to the left of the radiator cap at the overflow. Listen for boiling sounds.

Thanks for the replies. I did pop the hood, and didn't hear boiling. I don't think I would since it is a 50/50 mix. I'll check the back of the heads when I get a chance. Thanks guys!

Take out your battery and look at the coolant overflow hose. Mine makes a anti freeze smell only when it is hot. Mine never really goes above 175 though, but i have noticed the smell. To me, antifreeze seems to smell more when it's hot, trust me. Drain your radiator cold, then CAREFULLY drain it when it's hot. You will notice that antifreeze smells much more potent when it's hot.

I've always only used two. One for pass and one for driver side. Where do the other two go?

the smell is very common for cars with headers, mine does it to...my solution to this is that i always have my vents blowing air, that way i never smell it

Really? Now that I think about it.. after I insalled my headers I started smelling, what I think, is coolant. It kinda smells like a moka capichino to me, or something. Do you know why? I never worried about it cuz I pressured tested my cooling system myself and my coolant level never drops...
