Coolant on the timing chain housing?

This also relates to the crankshaft sensor...i told them about a coolant leak in the front of the engine so they tell me that there was coolant around the timing chain housing. so my first thought was the water pump. well they go on tellin me that they basically have to take apart the whole front of the engine for the leak. what should i do/believe?

i'm half tempted to have them fix the sensor. then i'll buy an electric water pump to put on it just to prove them wrong.

Sounds like a water pump. Yes, you need to take a bit of stuff off to get to it.

they told me 1100 bucks to fix, sounds a bit high to replace the crankshaft sensor and fix the leak. granted they told me they didn't know where it was coming from?

If they have to work on the crank sensor they do have to take a good amount of stuff off. Getting the front timing cover off and be a pain and take a lot of time to do to make sure the oil pan gasket doesn't get damaged. I could see a shop charging over 1k to do that stuff including parts. If you have heads, cam and all that stuff don't you know whats involved in removing the timing cover? If not you need to learn to do it yourself as the more your car is modded the more you have to work on it.

the crankshaft sensor is right up front for my 96. i'm having a shop do the work cuz i don't have a place to work on my car or any tools to do so. believe me if i did that water pump would be off in a heart beat.
