coolant temp running warm

Hi,i have 95 z28 .i just purchased the car and had a question regarding coolant temps. At 65 mph temp is fine 180.In traffic temp rises to about 225 to 230 and the fans then come on temp then cools to approx 220. Is this normal or is there a fan problem .I live in Arizona and would like to get this figured out before summer. Also i just had the system flushed and reserviced and still have the same results. any help here would be greatly appreciated.thanks kevin

Sounds like a stock thermostat and fan setup. If you want the car to run cooler, you can get a colder thermostat and a little computer tune to turn the fans on sooner.

That's normal. Stock fans don't come on until 226º.

100% Normal. Kinda scary if you dont know that from the beginning, I thought my car was running way too hot until I posted here and got the same replies.

I don't use my heater as I'm in new orleans and accustomed to the winters in maine but I imagine the heater would blow flames out at those temps on high setting.
But don't worry, stock temps are 2- something like they said.

Yes, cars run hot here. I have a 160* stat and it helped a little. Get a manual fan switch in there and it will help. If you need help with installs or such, I am in north Phoenix.

might be worth while to make sure all the air was bled out of the coolant system.

there are two brass screws in the coolant lines near the top of the radiator...shoebox don't you have a pic of that someplace?...just open those a little while the car is warmed up and running. if any air comes out, jsut keep them open till nothing but coolant comes out. this may take several attempts over a few days to get it all.

that can easily cause "running hot" problems.
