the sensor on the head is the one that controls the gagues, but it does NOT effect the PCM.

Get it checked for codes. It could be that easy.

That is for a LS1. LT1 if the PCM sensor (located on the waterpump) is bad it'll just turn the fans on by default. You can find part numbers for most popular things at www.shbox.com
Without any information about the car or what's done to it no one can really tell you a whole lot of anything.

If the coolant temp sensor in any engine is giving the incorrect temp to the PCM, it can cause the engine to run poorly. Low temps cause the PCM to richen the A/F mixture and prevent the system from going into closed loop. But as noted, only the sensor in the water pump housing will affect the PCM.

That's not really a good idea (for reasons explained by Injuneer).

If you want to test it, there is testing info on my Tech Page. A scanner will also tell you very quickly if it is working properly.

You probably spent/wasted more $$$ on the sensors than a digital multi-meter would have cost you.

We all trash the typical dealer for playing parts roulette with our cars, and then go out and play the same game.

It's hard to work on the car without the proper tools. Unless you just want to keep throwing parts at it, you need to buy the tools and learn how to use them or take it to a shop to have the work done. There are not just a whole lot of choices.
