Coolant Temp Gauge not working??

Hooked a computer up to my car it idles @ 180 (in 105 texas heat today) and the fuel is where its suppose to be not lean as my mechanic thought.. but my coolant temp gauge is reading 0.. we grounded it and it went max so its working but why isnt it showing anything?

I was thinking about doing a coolant temp/tranny temp dual a-pillar thing if we cant find a way to fix it?? how hard is it to hook the coolant temp one up im gonna let me mecahnic do the tranny one

Re: Coolant Temp Gauge not working??

Check the coolant temp sensor in the head. If the gauge it reading "0" it means the sensor or the wire has infinite resistance = open circuit. Easy to check the sensor using an ohm meter.

Re: Coolant Temp Gauge not working??

id think its working since the computer gave me a reading.. ill tell my mechanic to check that.. he replaced the sensor already once like 2 days ago.. althought before engine/tranny/rear rebuild it was working so maybe he didnt ground it like i said ill have him check

There are two different sensors. The one that feeds info to the PCM is located on the waterpump.

It is QUITE possible he installed the wrong type of sensor. Both sensors have different part numbers. Check shoebox's site for the correct p/n.

It's the coolant temp sending unit you need on the drivers head. It's not the same as the sensor.
