coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
okay so i pulled the heads off my lt1 i didnt notice the steam line in the back of the heads and creased the line.
the only place i have found the line is at gm for 140$ i was gonna try and make the line with brass fittings and rubber hose or maybe even bypass?
any input would be helpful. thank

Re: coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
I agree with this. The cross over tube is there for a reason. I think I have an extra one at home, ill check when I get there. Ill also check to see what size the holes are too. Not sure about the pressure tho.
Re: coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
Ok, keep in mind these measurements are going to be to the edge of the threads.
I measured the inside diameter of the steam tube holes and came up with. 440" on a set of mitutoyo digital calipers. I also measured a few banjo bolts (the correct bolts for the steam tube) for a reference and got .5035" to .5040". Also, these are tapped straight thread, not a NPT.
I do have an extra cross over tube if interested too.
Hope this helps.

Re: coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
1/4" pipe threads. The holes in the head are not tapered, but people use tapered fittings in them all the time to make up their own hose solution.

Yes, they are. N(ational) P(ipe) T(hread)
Aeroquip may have STRAIGHT pipe thread fittings for aircraft that use an O-ring under the hex flange to seal it if you don't want to heavily dope a tapered fitting's threads.

Re: coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
Its actually National Pipe Taper, but who's counting lol. Also with it only being 1/4", the difference in the amount of thread sealant you would have to use would be insignificant.
Re: coolant/steam line on back of the heads?
ARP thread sealer from Jegs or Summit, or Permatex PST from autozone will work. Just put enough on to fill the groove of the threads and you will be fine.
