Coolant smell when I turn on AC.....

Okay guys. I was thinking its my heater core. The smell only come out once in awhile. I checked under the passenger side dash and there is no leak or anything and nothing leaking under the car. I just threw my motor in and recharged my AC. Anyone have any clues?????

thanks.

Occasionally, the HVAC system can pull in some odor from under the hood, but most commonly the heater core is the culprit. Another symptom would be fogging up the windshield when you turn the defrost on. The core may only be slightly leaking at this point.

Thanks Shoe....was hoping you'd drop in. Anyway....would it be leaking into the cabin with just a small leak?

If the leak is small enough, it may stay inside the HVAC housing. Some of it will evaporate. Bigger leaks will seep out into the carpeting.

So what do you recommend...... should I tear her apart just to check or replace it just in case?

Didnt you just get your motor back together???

Mine stunk after i did the cam, sometimes the defroster would throw crap up tonto the window. After an oil change or two, it stopped and never had any other issues with it. No idea what was causing it.

Yeah, just built my stroker and put it in. Has like 250miles on it. It doesn't stink that bad and only comes on in spurts once in awhile. I only noticed it last night. The first 200 miles had no smell at all.

Cool

I would check your heaterbox drain line for signs of anti freeze (its on the firewall on the passenger side near the bottom. Look right over you header collector if you have long tubes). Unless it starts pissing really bad the antifreeze will drain out there.

Thats exactly what my dads was doing before it dumped anti freeze all over the passenger floorboard in his roadmaster...wound up being the heater core.
