coolant sensor part number

what is the GM/AC delco part number for the coolant sensor in the head. I broke mine while doing headers, put in a cheap autozone one, and its giving me false readings. Im gonna go to the dealer to buy a another one.

Re: coolant sensor part number

i bought two from autozone- one i never used and still sitting in the box. when my car overheated last fall i put a new temp sensor in and the temp gauge needle won't move at all to this day and the car is running at 160*. it shows like 215 on the gauge. i grounded the wire lead and the needle pegged to the overheat zone. does this sound like what you are having go wrong?

Re: coolant sensor part number

it seems like my car would warm up real quick to about 215, and run normal temp there. When I sat in traffic, and the engine got a little more hot, it would climb higher, to almost 260. It was like the sensor was to sensitive. All this, and my cars temp was still normal.

Re: coolant sensor part number

huh, how do you know your engine temp was okay then. do you have a scan tool or something? to make sure it is working right. unplug the sensor and get a piece of wire and shove one end of the wire into the plug and ground the other end of the wire and look at your gauge it should be pegged all the way to the right to overheating. if not then there is maybe a short in the wires or your needle is loose. i think thats the problem with mine it came loose somehow. i will mess with it this winter, tear the dash apart

Re: coolant sensor part number

I took off the radiator cap, and put a digital thermometer (sp) in their, and it read normal. Everything was fine until I broke my stock sensor, and put in this aftermarket one.

Re: coolant sensor part number

Will do, had to order it. I got ahold of a scantool today, and read the sensor of the water pump, and it was right. The gauge in the dash was off about 30 degrees.

I haven't ordered it yet. Im not sure on the price. My dad orders from the dealer, and they bring it out to his shop. I think it was around $20 the last I heard.
