Coolant sending unit Location?
Coolant sending unit Location?
I was needing to konw where the coolant sending unit is located? Also, what does the coolant light loo like on the gauge light panel? It wouldnt happen to be the light about a inch undernieth the 6000 rpm mark...would it? If not does anyobody know what light that is? I does have a owners manuel. Any replies will be appreciated
Re: Coolant sending unit Location?
The low coolant light is a red light, sounds like the location you're referring to. It's supposed to be a picture of a radiator with an arrow pointing down inside it.
As for the sensor you're asking about, if you mean the sensor that monitors the level of the coolant, it is on the passenger side radiator tank. They are well known to cause a false low coolant light. Many of us after double and triple checking the level to assure it's correct, just unplug the sensor itself.

Re: Coolant sending unit Location?
IIRC, the sending unit that sends the temp to the PCM is on the water pump housing. The sending unit that sends the temp to the actual gauge is on the side of the drivers side head, between cyl 1 & 3.

Sweet... Thats what I needed to know. My water temp gauge needle is flat. Its not picking up the temp. I bought the sending unit, but I didnt know where it went. Between cylinder 1 and 3 huh...? If I swith it out would this possible make that coolant light go off? If not Im gonna unplug it
Re: Coolant sending unit Location?
Which "coolant sending unit" are you asking about - coolant level sensor, coolant temp guage sender, or coolant temp PCM sensor? You can see the confusion in the responses above.
It also helps to include info about your car in a "signature".... year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. In this example, the location of the low coolant level light on the dash may not be the same for a Camaro as it is for a Firebird. The more info you provide with your question, the more likely you will get the right answer.
