Coolant pushing out of overflow after headgasket replace

Well head gasket on the 2,4,6,8 side blew out on a friends fleetwood w lt1... replaced both head gaskets had heads checked no problems found... bled air out of system for around 30 min.. drove car no problems.... now 2days later water is gurgling in and getting pushed out of overflow tank... is it possible for air to still be in there? any ideas would be great thanks guys

Sounds like you still have an air bubble in there somewhere.

Make sure the steam pipe hose and reservoir hose are not swapped on the radiator. Lot of that happening lately.

Reservoir hose goes to the nipple on the filler neck and the steam pipe on the nipple below that on the tank.

I assume the heads were resurfaced?

Yeah, sorry, it's not the same. You have a pressurized reservoir and no cap on the radiator. You don't have the same hoses to mix up. Must be something else.

I never had any trouble bleeding the b-body system.

Sounds to me like there is still a combustion to cooling system leak.
Can you test the coolant for combustion gasses?

NAPA has a test kit for like $40, a shop might test it that cheap but if you buy the tools for the same price this time you have them next time.

Re: Coolant pushing out of overflow after headgasket replace

Combustion pressure is so much higher and gasses get through smaller pores so it is possible to have a "one way" combustion to coolant leak but not a coolant leak.

I am in the process of replacing head gaskets again because of the same type of problem. I just rebuilt the engine put down new head gaskets, they were leaking combustion into the cooling system but not leaking coolant into the cylinders. I have some pictures of what I found and for sure it was leaking combustion. I am replacing with better gaskets but I found that both banks were leaking the same places here is the link to the pictures. Hopefully it helps you some.
