Coolant light comes on...

Ok, randomly my coolant light will come on, but not only when it's hot, or only when it's cold. Just random. I've checked my coolant level numerous times and it's always fine. The car runs a constant 180-200 degrees(stock thermostat), and rarely will jump to 220 when I sit for a few minutes, but NEVER gets close to overheating. Is there a chance my coolant level sensor could be bad? Or is this a common problem?

Thanks for the help,
Kyle

Very common for the low coolant sensor to act up. Most ppl end up replacing it when it starts doing this.

Oh, then I'll just buy about 5 of them, and when the light comes back on I'll just keep replacing them!

Thanks for the help,

Kyle

Just clean it. Take out the battery, the sensor is right at the top passenger side of the radiator. Lower the coolant level. (I siphon some into a gal. jug.) Slide off the spring clip and wiggle, pull out the sensor. As long as you have to small prongs sticking out of the sensor still you can just scrape them clean with a pocket knife. Try that before you buy one. It worked on mine. Make sure you air bleed the system of course. Later>>>>>>>

Yeah it is really common and mine is doing it right now too. I think shoebox has a R&R on how to do it on his tech page if im not mistaken. Or he atleast has a picture of where it is and what it looks like.

Problems like this one need to be fixed . Not covered up. Now you won't know when your coolant really is low, which could lead to a burned/blown head gaskest or cooked engine.
