coolant fans

Anyone ever had to replace a coolant fan? One of mine (the one on the driver side) isn't coming on for some reason. I'm not quite sure if the motor is out or what. I checked the fuzes and they seam to be working correctly. I'm don't really know what else to do. The car keeps overheating and it really needs to be fixed. Anyone ever had this problem? thanks guys and have a great day!!!

Re: coolant fans

Wire that fan straight to the battery and see if it works. If it comes on, the fan isn't your problem.

You can either do that or swap the plugs on the fans and see if it works.

Ok, I think my fans are wired a little different already. I have a manual switch that turns them on and off (for drag racing). The box that has the plugs in it (it says there are three for some reason...) I alreayd changed around and it made no difference. Wish I knew more about car electronics.. and I'm an engineer, scary thought.

Re: coolant fans

This may sound like a dumb question, but have you checked the actual connection to the fan. Mine did the same thing (same fan) about a day before my manual fan switch came in the mail. I hooked it up and realized that it still didnt work. I got under the car to test if the fan was getting power because it all looked good, and moved the plug in a bit. The fan got a connection and instantly turned on. I got a wired brush and scraped everything off the inside of the connector and it has worked ever since.

Hope this helps.

Re: coolant fans

i had that problem, but mine was wired normally, and the relays werent kickin on.... so i ran new wires to the plugs, and wired one to a ground, and one to my ACC fuse in the fuse block.... fans been workin ever since.... honestly? dont buy that BS they try to sell you as a replacement fan.... i think its upwards of 120 bucks to buy it, and they have a cheaper one for cars without A/C that works the same way as the other one, only like 25 bucks.. and because its ran off a switch, it will work perfectly for you i did that to mine, and its running beautifully, at 150k miles! car never hops above the first hashmark after 160.....

Re: coolant fans

If your fan is broken changing the motor is simple. The most diffucult part is taking out the shroud which is simple, just takes some wiggling to get it out of the engine bay. Watch out for all the lines blocking it from coming right out.
