Confused about Mid Tube headers

Well since I will be getting some extra money for the holidays, I would like to
purchase some mid tube headers(live in CA), I should have a little more than $400 to spend.Do you think this will be enough to purchase some headers? I'm confuse because some people say that I have two cat's but I can only see one on the passenger side, there is this ball shape thing that is on my driver side manifolds, is this another cat? Will I need a Y pipe? THanks for any feedback

The driver's cat (if i rememeber) is directly off the exhaust manifold collector and the pass cat is purely visible underneath. $400 should be plenty->try and find a used set of headers. Unless you get shorty's, you'll need a y-pipe.

CA emissions required the dual-cats starting in 1995 (A4 cars only). You will find the bullet-shaped driver's side cat bolted directly to a wierd triangular flange on the bottom of the exhaust manifold.

To be legal in CA, you need to retain the dual cats, and keep them in the stock position. That sort of limits you to the SLP dual-cat CARB-EO certified headers, or possibly a set form JBA or BBK.

If I would get the pacesetter mid tube, I would also need a y pipe correct?
I dont mind paying a little extra to pass smog but I already have duals that dump before the axle and they are pretty loud, I just think that LT's would bother me after a while.

The price is good, but the Pacesetters don't carry a CARB sticker.

If you bolt on a set of 94 single cats pacesetters and a highflow cat you can pass at a smog station. 9 times out of 10 if you just point out the CARB number and they see the cat they won't question it or even think about there being a second cat. Myself as well as a couple of my friends have gotten away with it the last couple years. If you find someone unwilling, take it to the next guy. But between the headers, cat, and "S" pipe you'll need you'd be hard pressed to do it all for $400 unless you built and welded the "S" pipe yourself like I did. plus you'd need an o2 sim for the drivers side.

sorry about that injuneer.
Here is a link to the headers that I want to purchase.

Other than the obvious that goods are not coated, can you think of any other problem I might run into?

after reading up on the subject too a while back, i decided on going with the MAC mids, still waiting on them to get to my house though its already been like 2 weeks! i ordered from www.lmperformance.com and they've given me good customer services by replying to all my emails, but all they said at first was "it should be shipping any day now". hopefully they come in this week though. i ordered the ones for a 97 that come with headers, y-pipe, and 2 cats. but yea i guess i'm just saying i went with MAC mids, but they are a little pricey brand new (mine was 700 for what was mentioned)

I've got Mac Mids, bought directly from Mac. I like them alot. Fit was pretty good. I've only got the single cat though.

sorry i didn't get to this one sooner. i ran the edelbrock ceramic coated tes. they bolted right up and came with the y-pipe. if your mac order falls through i would highly recommend the edelbrock.
