Talking concerning installing stock hub on crank

I've heard of people tapping them on with a hammer(not the best idea), and most of the damper installers work great with single piece dampers but dont work with the hub. Instead of buying the tool, I thought I'd try my own way. I bought a 7/16 - 20 x 6 inch bolt and used the bearing out of the damper installation tool with a couple of washers and a deep socket. I put a washer on the bolt then put the bolt through the deep socket(1/2" drive) then put a washer on and then the bearing and another washer, that way the bearing doesn't get all bunged up. At any rate it was almost a free homemade tool and also insured the hub got installed correctly and no banging on the crank. Thought you guys might be interested in this, I've been doing alot of work on an LT1 motor the last couple of months and this was one of the things I came across. No one in my area knew of a way to install the hub without a speciality tool, and I wasn't about to spend mega bucks on something I was only going to use on one motor.

Re: concerning installing stock hub on crank

we use a grade 10 7/16-20 threaded stock, snap-on thrust roller bearing, and a grade 8 nut to install the hubs, works great every time!
