Computer reprogramed for headers?

I am going to install long tube headers on my 97 lt1. Do I need to have my computer reprogrammed to remove AIR and the EGR crap? Or do I just block it off? If I just have to block it off, how do I do it. Thanks for your help. I have o2 simulators already for the back o2's

No it is not necessary to have it reprogrammed. But it wouldn't hurt anything by doing so. It will add some power if it was reprogrammed.

Won't you get a constant SES light if you delete the EGR on an OBD-II car? I thought you had to program that out....maybe I am wrong.

Yeah he will but it won't effect the cars performance. But the light will be there untill it is programmed out.

I scored one of my current Random cats on a rock and it went code 420 on my Autotap for cat no working. Got tired of looking at that SES light so I pulled out the instrument cluster and slipped 2 layers of paper in there and blocked it off. Also blocked off the ASR Off light as I have a reverse Traction Control Module.
Soon I'm putting in my TPiS Longtubes that I've added the emissions fittings to, and custom made dual removeable cat y pipe with new Random bullets, so it may be time to take the paper out in the cluster.
I want to keep my car a long time and it's only a matter of time before I may have to pass emissions here in Buffalo.
My mechanic told me its coming, nationwide eventually.

Installing headers on an OBD2 car will cause an EGR flow malfunction code (P0400), and a resulting SES light.

Headers may or may not throw the EGR code.
It depends on how much back pressure there is.
My SLP shorties don't throw it.
The Longtubes might.
I put a Moroso twister in the I pipe because I don't like it loud at cruise.
I'm putting on a 6 psi Powerdyne blower with water/methanol injection soon so a little backpressure will be ok with me.

Hey CamaroSS, I live in Elma which is near Depew.
We should check out each other's cars sometime.

Re: Computer reprogramed for headers?

I want to install some Pacesetter Long Tubes without the emissions fittings as well as remove my cats with a ORY, I have a 95 Z/28 which i understand has an OBDI computer with an OBDII fitting. Will my SES light start coming on after install? Also, how much is it to pick up all the hardware and everything needed to scan my pcm? Thanks
