Re: Completely replacing Optispark system

Sell the car. or spend an a** load of money getting a custom system built. If you want to go real retro rip off the intake and put a carb style one on and run a points type distribitor. Dont know why the opti gets such a bad name all it does is be an electronic ignition. Just like all car parts they need attention from time to time. Seems like people tend to blame all lt1 running problems on the opti, when most are from lack of basic matience. Whew ... end of rant! The opti is your friend!

Do a search it has been discussed at least 10 times over. Fred (Injuneer) and others have gone into detail. There are a few difrent ways, but none cheap or easy at this point. If the Delteq stage 2 comes out any time soon, then that should be a good solution.

The opti is definitely not my friend. I need to get rid of it all together cause it interferes with my fluidampr damper. If I go the carb route, I assume I will need the computer to control the stock guages. Will I be able to get a tach signal to it off the coil? Or would I need to install a crank trigger.

Re: Completely replacing Optispark system

I would get rid of the aftermarket damper long before i got rid of the opti. Unless you are doing something really special with the engine and got a ton of money to spend and if you got tons boy do i have a car for you! I use a stock damper amd twist 6000 plus on a regular basis. Like kmook said full replacement has been beat to death do a search.
