Comp R w/ Pro Magnum Roller Rockers

Does anyone here use COmp R rollers on their LT1 w/ Pro Magnum rockers?

I've just finished setting a valve train and I'm noticing extremely loud
ticking from all valves.

It's not a matter of incorrect pre-load, all of the valves were set with a feeler
gauge.

Are Comp R's and/or Pro Magnums known to be very noisy?

Thanks

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

Do you mean Pro Magnum roller rockers or Comp R lifters?

Sorry.

He has Comp R lifters, and Pro Magnum Rockers

Wondering if the Rockers are normally noisy.

Thanks.

I have them and they are extremely quiet. I was expecting them to be noisy, but they aren't. If you put your ear up to the valve cover, I can just barely hear them, but I don't have the lifters. Do you have the correct length pushrods?

I don't consider mine "quiet", but they are not extremely noisy. Mine are NSA.

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

It's not my motor so the details are scarce.

I can only assume the rods are correct length because the rocker tip is dead
center on the valve stem throughout the entire cylce.

The rockers also lash up fine, and I can pre-load the lifter.

The lifter is also on the base of the lobe when setting pre-load.

Still hearing noise.

It's tough to quantify the level of noise, but you have brought up something
that has me thinking.

This guy originally had the Self Aligning type. He said he ground off the tabs
which align the rocker.

Do you think the lateral movement is creating extra ticking?

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

I guess there are guideplates, since the "tabs" have been removed?

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

Yes sir, there are also Comp guide plates installed.

From most of the replies, I'm getting the feeling these rockers are normally
louder than most.

Thanks for the reassurance and help!

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

iirc the comp guideplates wont work on the lt1 engine properly since the valve spacing is marginally different. afaik only the gm guide plates will work correctly unless you want to get the adjustable weld-up kind. if he has the comp guide plates i've seen a few pictures where the pushrod tries to create a clearance in the comp plates, that might be where the extra noise is coming from.

also.. adjusting a hyd valvetrain with a feeler gauge?

Re: Comp R Roller Rockers

Yes, I use a feeler to check for zero lash.

Thanks for the input on the guideplates, I'll let him know!
