To comp "R" or not to comp "R"?

I will be installing a 224/236 .536/.555 on a 114 with pro mag 1.6's, cmotorsports Ex-612 springs, but im not sure which lifters to get. I have heard that the comp-R lifters are very difficult to get adjusted correctly and that the regular oem replacement comp lifters are much easier to set. The car will also be sprayed later if that makes a difference. so which ones?

When I swapped my cam, I threw in new OEM Comp lifters. They made more noise than i was comfortable with, even after several adjustments. So, I pulled them and replaced them with "R"s set AT ZERO LASH. I've been happy ever since.

you dont need them. just use the stokers if there in good shape. those springs dont have enough spring pressure to hustify comp r lifter

What's the open spring pressure? Anything more than 350lb may require the R lifters. Some may argue, but better safe than sorry according to more than one engine builder I have talked to.

Use the factory lifter's,they will take you to 7000RPM's and 500+FWHP easy. They just need to be adjusted right.

Yeah, I've always wondered what the big difference was between the Comp Rs and the regular Comp 850s? I went with the Comp 850s when I redid my cam about two years ago. I am not sure but decided I didn't need the Rs at the time. I have about 333lbs of open pressure with my springs and *knock on wood* they have worked well for me so far. I don't rev past 6k rpms or run it hard either. I guess I'll see as time goes on.
