875 lifters are the old style??? Don't change your order, I think 875 'R' style is a good choice, but its important to do that as Comp recommends 1/16 turn past zero lash with the Comp R's ..

Guess I will open up the box when I get home. I'll keep an eye open to see what the pics of the new style look like so that I can compare.

Re: Comp 'R' Lifter Failure

You see lots of problem because people don't know exactly how should they use them..people who get suggestion from comp (about installing), have no problem about this..

Re: Comp 'R' Lifter Failure

1/16 isn't enough, i had mine at 1/4 turn past zero lash and they were noisy as f*ck,, until 3/4 turn past zero. i actually started with 1 full turn past zero and the car ran great..

Just curious about something....
Did you look in your oil pan after this happened? Particularly, the magnet on the plug.

I've had two of the pushrods cups come out on my Comp R's as well. Pieces of ****.

Just a little story i have, when i had my 428cj built for my Mach 1 the engine builder chose a comp cam. He installed it and i broke it in. It went flat. I then took it back to the engine builder and he installed a new comp replacement cam and we broke it in again. I drove the car home and it still wasn't running right. I pulled the valve cover and what do you know it flattened the cam. The 3rd time we installed a crane cam and broke it in. The cam broke in fine and has been running great for 4 years now. After that i told myself i would never buy a Comp product again. Then i joined this board and everyone preaches that Comp is the best. So i gave them another try when i ordered my comp 230/236. I did install it with out degreeing the cam, which was a mistake. Comp had ground it wrong, so i had to tear the motor apart to degree it. It was my mistake for not degreeing the cam the first time but i"ve never had a good comp product. Now i'm starting to think my Comp R's are making to much noise and might of come apart.

Mee too..! I just prepared a top notch quality 383ci LT4 Long Block, but couldn't decide the valvetrain.. As you know valvetrain components is the most important thing of the engine..
I probabily will go with R style lifters, but I'm worry about it..

Re: Comp 'R' Lifter Failure

don't be worried, just don't use them. Every other one of these things seem to fall apart. That is too much money to throw away. I have also heard that comp won't do anything about it because it is always blamed on the installer. Who has ever heard of an oem lifter falling apart like this. I know that an oem lifter is only good to a certain amount of spring pressure but what are you supposed to do past that? I definetly wouldn't use comp r's. I just don't know.

Re: Comp 'R' Lifter Failure

Does anyone here know if it would be possible to pull a stock lifter apart and re-use the retaining clip on the Comp R's? This seems like it would be the best option if the retaining clips are the issue on these things coming apart..

Just an idea.. Has anyone tried this yet? Im curious as I am also looking into Comp R's for the new motor, but dont want to chance anything.. or spend $500+ on a set of lifters..

The 850's are just OEM replacements, so if you aren't gonna run Comp R's you might as well just keep your stockers. As far as i know there isn't really any other alternative between stock and the R's. I went through this back a few years ago when Comp R's were on back order for months and no one could get them. The only other option was OEM stuff.
