Comp Cams Conical Valve Springs

Does anyone have any experience with them on stock LT1 heads and a mild cam (like cc305)? I am considering them to replace my stock valve springs when I do my cam change. What do you all think?

Give Bret Bauer (SStrokerAce) I think it is and ask him about it. He has some experience with them. That is what he recommended to me when I spoke with him about springs.

I am running them on lt1 heads and they work quite well. Kind of a bear to install as the retainers are smaller in dia. A Quick tweak with a hammer on my valve spring tool made life good. Comp says to install with the blue stripe toward the exhaust side of the head.

These are probably the springs I will go with when I get my heads ported and get the bigger cam.

Thanks for the responses. Is there anything I need to worry about? Limitations? Installation quirks not already mentioned?

Only quirk was the small retainer size. Fit well, with good clearence for the seal area.

I am not sure if you are talking about the beehive springs or not.
If you are talking about the beehive springs (26915 or 26918) then
the following information applies for a stock LT1 aluminum head:

Comp parts
26915 springs
795-16 retainers (for 10* super locks)
614-16 super locks (+.050")

Manley parts
42437-16 CNC .062" thick spring seats (w/ OD machined down to 1.32")

The installed height of the spring with this setup was 1.745". If
you use the 7* hardware your installed height will be .015" less,
or 1.730". If you really wanted to get more installed height you
can machine down the thickness of the seat to obtain your target
installed height. I looked all over the place to find an off the shelf
spring seat that would work and ended up with the Manley's. I
had a machinist friend cut down the OD of the seats from 1.570"
to 1.320".

True, Yes i am talking about the beehive, good term BTW, small at the top big at the bottom. They work nicely for me with the CC306 and 1.6 RR's

You can't use the stock seats or stock replacments with the beehive springs?

I know you need new locks and retainers, but I was unaware that you needed new seat cups.

Please elaborate.

The beehive springs do not sit flush on the stock or the LT4 seats.
The ID of the spring is in the .875" range and the OD of the shoulder
on the stock and LT4 seats is about .920". You should do a search
on this topic because I have posted a lot of information already.

Some people are using the stock/LT4 seats, but I personally don't
like the fitment. The Manley seat has a .850" shoulder and works
very well with the beehive springs. You just need to machine the
OD of the seat down to 1.320".

I think that the beehive springs are and execllent replacement for
stock LT1 heads. It would be nice if someone manufactured a seat
that has a .850" shoulder, 1.320" OD and a .040" thickness. Maybe
this could be a group purchase. Manley will make custom seats with
a 400 minimum order (25 sets).

There are also some Comp parts that work for spring seats. They are not listed in the catalog but they have them.

When I got mine I got the entire kit. I am sure i got seats. I will look for the invoice and see if there are part numbers. Again VERY happy with my setup i rev 6000 plus on a regular basis. The guy at Comp as I recall told me the springs were origally developed for the LS1.

There is a good article in the back of the new Hot Rod about what they gained with beehive springs. Good read

Yeah if you could find out the part number information, that would be great. I want to do this right and this seat thing has got me spooked.

Thanks.
