Comp Belt (wet) Timing set?

Hello all.. As some of you know Im putting together a pretty mean 355 that will live in some pretty good RPM's quite a bit of the time, and if it is worth it, I will get the comp cams Belt Drive timing set (wet)

My question is what are the pro's/con's to this setup vs. a cloyes double roller.. I will be using an electric water pump, so this is not a factor.

Im wondering if it will fit under the timing cover on the LT1 and if it is worth it.. The belt seems durable as all hell, and shouldnt stretch over time like the chains are so prone to doing, so I would imagine that it would be a lot more accurate for a longer period of time, and it would also help isolate harmonics from the cam to the crank.

IS THIS WORTH IT??? Im really not worried about the cost difference, I just want to know the pros and cons, and if the pros really outweigh the cons, then I will go this route.

Tanks a bunch!

Unless they have released a new model in the last couple of months it won't fit an LT1.
It works good though for those that can run it, non hydraulic roller, non LT1 applications. I have one in my street car and the belt has proven to be very durable with solid roller springs.
I think there is a width issue with LT1 engines as well as the water pump drive. Heck I could be wrong though.

Around $400, but I can probably get it at wholesale which would bring it down somewhere near $250 im sure..

Compared to the $50 double roller from cloyes, Im just trying to figure out if the pros outweigh the cons.. Like I said earlier.. Money really isnt a concern..

You said.. "NON HYDRAULIC ROLLER" what is the reasoning for this? I will be running a hyd. roller cam, but I dont see why this would be an issue..

Re: Comp Belt (wet) Timing set?

Because of the bolt pattern on a hydraulic roller cam. The pattern is smaller to accomodate the anti-walk plate on the front of the block. The belt drive uses an offset dowel pin bushing to allow for a wide range of cam timing adjustments + or - 8 I believe. This also won't fit inside the confined bolt pattern of the OE stepped hydraulic roller cam.

Re: Comp Belt (wet) Timing set?

Thanks for the info man.. And in reguards to your sig, I already have the aeromotive AFPR, and it ROCKS! I will probably be getting some more aeromotive stuff for this new motor as well..

In regards to the cam fitment issues, I will be getting a LE3 package, so I wonder if Joe O, or Comp Cams will be able to accomodate me on this issue.. Any thoughts?

This thing just looks like such a sweet setup, I want it!

I think you're going to end up with the cloyes setup, or something similar. You aren't going to give up much if anything on power, and Cloyes make fine timing components. I'd call Comp and see what the hot setup is now.

Thanks for the compliments on our product!

Yeah can't use that thing with a retention plate setup....

If you are going OPTILESS you could run it with the right cam core, a modified timing cover and a thrust button.

Belt drives are better, but they come at a cost.

That belt drive should sell for about $375

www.progear.com they have a very good timing chain with a torrington thrust bearing and multiple adjustments for the timing.... best one I have found so far for a LT1.
