Comp 987 Installed Height

Does anyone happen to know what the installed height of the following on stock LT1 heads would be?

Comp 987 -16 Springs [1.43"OD;.697" ID; 1.15"CB; 370#/in.; 140# @ 1.75"]
Comp 4770-16 Spring Locators [.060" x .585" x 1.50" x .690"]
Comp 740-16 Retainers
Comp 614-16 Locks [+.050"]

Thanks in advance.

"Installed height" is determined by how you set up the heads. You use shims, as needed, to get the desired height on each spring individually. The factory just installs the same parts on each vlave, figuring that the manufacturing tolerances are close enough but that's not the way to build a performance motor. You probably know this and are just looking for a ball park number? I just figured that out so I guess in that case just ignore my post.

Yes, just a ball park number. Like is it 1.75" or 1.80". The main thing I'm looking for is if someone has installed this setup with the +.050 locks. I'm not planning on installing these springs, just helping someone else that is in the process of a spring replacement.

From what i remember it is in the 1.70 range. I used the 987 with the .050 locks and it was fine. The cam that was used was a 224/230.

If you have any more specific info let me know. The CB height for the 987 is 1.15 and if installed at 1.70 only leaves .550 to CB. I would think they install higher than that with +.050 locks. The CC503 with 1.6 rockers is .544 on the exhaust side. You must have had more than 1.70 installed height. All info is much appreciated, just trying to nail this down some more.

Put a retainer on the head with the locks in and see what you have to work with.

Why you running a +.050?

anyway...I would coil bind the sporings and measure it.....add .030 or so and the valve lift, then take that number and check spring pressure there......then if its good try to install them at that ht.

With a regular lock you would be about a .030 shim or so....but like rich said you need to check each one b/c performance stuff does not leave room for error on the table like a stock motor

If you dont and use the stock locks, the valve will be recessed inside the retainer.

I don'tunderstand what your saying....From what I make of that it would be a -.050

Measure from the head spring pocket to the retainer with the valve closed and retainer/keepers on it and see what you have.
