Comp 230/236 vs. CC306

Hey guys whats up...new to the board and was wondering if any of you have or know of any dyno sheets of the comp 230/236 112 lsa cam and/or the cc306 cam (preferrably with stock heads). I'm in the process of choosing a cam and I'm curious about the torque curve difference of these 2 cams (or any other recommendations). I plan on getting a set of heads ported in a few months, but would like to do a set of LT's, exhaust, and a cam soon. Car is a daily driver, but I don't mind a little lope... just don't want it to fall on it's face down low! Looking for mid to high 12s on street tires with around 340-350 to the wheels with stock heads and maybe low 12s with around 380-400 with a ported set of heads.

Thanks in advance.

230/236 w/ ported heads/ stock bottom end
I prefer the XE 3300 lobes for a street or street/strip car.

That was 2 vehicles ago...

But that setup was a setup of ported heads (they flowed ok nothing fabulous), long tubes, 58mm tb, true duals w/ x-pipe, cai, and all the normal valvetrain upgrades when doing heads/cam.

Cool, that was a strong runner, my 383 is running only slightly better with the same cam. I at first went with the 224/230 XE and felt it was too small, I didnt get any dyno time with it but I wasnt pleased with the track performance, but the around town SOTP was pegged.I now am running the XE 230/236 and it gave it more top end pull and didnt take away any bottem end as far as I can tell. I dont have the graph on the net but my peak power was 411 hp and 403 torque the torque peaked just shy od 4 grand (on the low side) the converter of course made it pretty well unreadable slightly below that. But the power was @ 6100. I was running a little rich so there may be a little left. I plan on trying the GM 847 next year just to see which cam is really better for what I have, mainly because the Dyno guys ( who also did the machine work on the motor) were saying the car wants more cam.
I have no personnal experience with the 306.

The main difference in how the cams act would be the cc 306 will a couple of RPM higher (6500-6600 RPM) and starts making power around 3000 to 3500 RPM.

The XE 230/236 (112 LSA) will pull to 6300 to 6500 and still make good TQ around 2500 RPM or so. The XE 230/236 cam would be more drivable and feel bertter around town. At the track or dyno they will be VERY similar, Comparing both cams with the same set up, the cc 306 (5 HP maybe) will be "slightly" better assuming you have gear, converter to make it work.

Both are good cams. The XE will not be quite as hard on the bottom and and feel better at low RPM.

like he said, with my xe 230/236 112 lsa (just installed, so these are initial thoughts) seems to have tq at 2krpm-3krpm it is monster tq, you are at 4krpm before you even know it. I will have dyno graphs soon... need to tune it first though. I plan on maxing hp at 6200rpm, and getting max tq at 2500. streetable I agree already.

Thanks a lot for the input guys. It sounds like I'll be going with the 230/236 cam...I was leaning towards that anyway because I want to keep as much lowend as I can and still have some room up top as well...and the car will be mainly seeing street duty and an occasional (every couple of months in season) rip at the track. Just want to run with most of the street squirrels around town haha ...thanks again.

cc306 / convertor

what kind of convertor do you recommend to remody the 306?

I would say a 3000 plus stall would do the trick. But compression helps alot too.

I'd say something to meet around the middle of the torque curve provided by the 306...nothing less than 3000 but I'd probably advise something like a 3200-3400...

If you're OBD1 you can have the "high stall problem" (anything above 3000) taken care of with programming...
